People's Ukrainian Academy, being since 1997 an experimental platform of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the author-founder of a regional experimental complex implementing in practice a new educational module, subordinates all directions of its work to the realization of a scientific and research project on the formation and development of an educational establishment of a new type which embodies an innovative model of continuing education.

The main priorities of scientific and research work in PUA are:

Working out complex scientific themes in accordance with the long-term plan for the period of 2006-2020.

The realization of an experiment on implementation of a new educational module.

The development of scientific schools of PUA.

The planned development of post-graduate and doctoral programmes as a source of training and professional development of the scientific and pedagogical staff.

Publishing the results of scientific researches on complex themes.

The activities of Students' Scientific Society and Association of Young Scientists.

The PUA research team works on the long-term complex theme: «Formation of intellectual potential of society within the period of contemporary social transformations» (state registration number # 0199U004470, the theme is registered in Ukrainian Institute of Scientific, Technical and Economic Information (UkrISTEI)). The complex scientific theme in the year of 2012 is «Social portrait of the teacher of 21st century». The main priority is improving the quality of the staff's work through involvement in research.

Scientific and research work in PUA is carried out in accordance with the long-term plan of scientific and research work for the period of 2006-2020 within the framework of the scientific school under the guidance of Professor V.I. Astakhova, and provides working out a common scientific problem. Scientific researches on the theme are done by the teachers of all the PUA departments, the employees of scientific services and laboratories, the teachers of Specialized Economics and Law School (SELS).

Complex scientific researches in PUA are carried out in various forms. There are regularly held scientific conferences and seminars of different levels, including international ones. Over the last three years there have been organized major scientific conferences on the modernization of the education system in Ukraine, the problems of academic mobility, civic consciousness, Ukrainian-American contacts in the sphere of higher education, etc. Every year, in April, there is held the Day of Science in the form of International Students' Scientific Conference, the Conference of Teachers working within the system of continuing education and the Theoretical Conference of Young Scientists.

Teachers and employees of PUA actively participate in different scientific conferences, contests, exhibitions. Post-graduate and doctoral programmes on a wide range of specialties are being developed in KhUH PUA.

There is annually published a collection of articles «Scientific Notes of KhUH PUA», which is a specialized scientific edition of Higher Attestation Commission of Ukraine on sociology, history, philology and economics.

At the Academy there functions Association of Young Scientists uniting post-graduate students and young teachers. At the departments of the Academy there work scientific circles and problem groups united in SSS – Students' Scientific Society.

PUA students are prize-winners of many local, regional, Ukrainian and international competitions and olympiads.

Over the period of its existence PUA has managed to create its own scientific schools. The main areas of their work are the problems of history, philosophy, sociology, psychology, economics, philology, law, information technologies in the sphere of education.
