The сhair of philosophy and humanitarin disciplines
Head of the Chair is Podolskaya Yelizaveta Ananiyevna, Doctor of Sociology, professor. The Chair of philosophy and humanitarian disciplines was founded on September 1, 2008 as a result of a merger of the History of Ukraine and the Philosophy and Natural Sciences chairs. The history of the Chair foundation and development is inseparably connected with the names of Y. V. Astakhova, A. A. Gaikov, G. I. Kostakov, V. F. Sukhina, N. G. Chibisova, V. N. Korniyenko and the department head Y. A. Podolskaya – the present Head of the Chair. The Chair provides continuous teaching of a range of humanitarian disciplines and endeavors to shape the students’ world outlook during all the five years of studies. The first year students meeting with the teachers of the Chair is the starting point of a close student-teacher cooperation and mutual understanding on the basis of accumulating knowledge in the fields of history, political sciences, philosophy, cultural studies. While the students’ outlook matures, their system of values and ideas as to Ukraine’s present, past and future are formed, which helps them to work out a methodological approach to evaluating the world around them and find adequate ways of conducting their professional activities. The Chair’s achievements are not confined to classroom work. The extra-curricular activities the Chair is involved in include: annual students’ academic conferences devoted to various problems of the history of Ukraine (first year students); pedagogy and psychology of higher education (fifth year students studying for their Master’s degree); secondary school pupils contests on the history of the Kharkov region; a contest of social projects; political clubs and debates; “ The Week of the Chair”; essay competitions on historical, political, and cultural problems; “round tables” and others. According to the results of the 2013-2014 academic year, the Chair won the second place in the Academy rating.
