The Department’s Competitive Advantages

As part of the competitive advantages of the “People’s Ukrainian Academy” in general, our Department is training specialists (Bachelor’s and Master’s levels) in “Economy and Entrepreneurship” - a professional field which is one of the most sought after in a situation which necessitates a search for ways out of the crisis (the crisis will not last forever!!!) and which has the following advantages over departments of similar orientation:

• Training specialists in two integrated areas (economists with an in-depth knowledge of entrepreneurial activities legal regulation), which significantly enhances a demand for our graduates’ on the job market.
• A high professional level of our Faculty and staff, no less than 25% of whom combine teaching with practical work in real sectors of the national economy and state administration. 76% of the teachers have PhDs and Doctoral degrees (the average figure for Kharkov is 54, 6%).
• The Faculty’s ability to flexibly and dynamically respond to changes in the professional standards of economists and their employers’ requirements by emphasizing the practical aspects of the learning process and using author’s courses and innovative technologies in teaching, for example, within the framework of the “SIGAM” business game.
• A possibility of obtaining two diplomas – those from KhHU “PUA” and a foreign institution of higher education (Swiss School of Business in Montreux – a partner of the Academy).
• A high level of students’ training in Information Technologies with a focus on “Economy of the Enterprise” and skills in working with internet services.
• An intensive (almost 1500 hours) multi-aspect course of English, which enables our students to listen to guest lecturers from foreign partner universities. There is also a possibility of acquiring an additional foreign language (of the student’s choice) by the time of graduation.
• Implementation of “The Modern Economist” Complex Model presupposing a scope of knowledge which would enable our graduates to not only to easily adapt to any workplace in any of the goods-producing or services providing companies, but also to start their own business!
• Providing actual employment and designing trajectories of graduates’ personal growth and career development. Collaboration with the alumni, assisting in their advanced qualification training within the “Graduates Support Program”.
• Exciting students life: clubs, sport sections, creative groups, internships, tours, trips, etc. , which enables each student to develop their creativity and achieve self-realization as a multi-faceted personality – numerous victories of our students in the Olympiad competitions and tournaments at the national and international levels, creativity contests and festivals can serve as evidence of that.
• Maintaining traditions aimed at developing students’ loyalty to their department and the Academy in general: the Business Club, the English Club, the Euro-club, the Political Club, the Sports Club, the Debating Society, the intellectual “Comme il-faut” Club, The Entrepreneur’s Day celebration.

Areas of training  and specialization:

General Information

"The Business Administration Department" offers:

• IVth level of Accreditation which makes it possible to provide a multi-stage education leading to Bachelor's - Specialist's - Master's Degrees.

• in-depth legal education which ensures a high level of legal culture and legal way of thinking of our post-graduates;

• intensive training in foreign languages:

- an obligatory foreign language (English) – taught for 8 hours a week in the first year (aspects: grammar and speaking) and 8 hours a week in the second, third and fourth years);

- an optional foreign language of the student's choice: German, French, Italian – taught 100 yours a year for the duration of the I – IV years;

• an opportunity of doing an internship in learning centers abroad in the chosen specialization or in order to obtain advanced foreign language training;

• an opportunity of internship or work placement at the leading enterprises and in firms of Kharkov with a subsequent employment;

• new teaching technologies, including interactive ones;

• participation in research work, conferences, tournaments, contests;

• a military training chair.

The curriculum of the Department includes a broad range of disciplines necessary for a modern specialist. It is worthy of note that the forms and methods of training professional economists have shaped in the last 20 years into a holistic concept, recognized by colleagues, partners and competitors not only in Kharkov but in many higher educational establishments of the country.

The Department trains economists with an in-depth legal education. This is achieved due to a 600 hour complex study of the foundations of the Theory of State and Law, basic branches of Law and other law-related disciplines. A graduate who has successfully completed the study of the law-related disciplines taught at the Department is capable of professionally determining the legal mode of his/her economic activities, wherever his/her workplace is.

The program of foreign language training at the Department is based on a new methodology, which presupposes teaching the language on such aspects as grammar, listening, and home-reading, wherein the number of hours allocated for a 5-year course is 1000– more than is presupposed by a standard syllabus for students of economics.  If desired, it is possible to take up an additional foreign language.

In order to ensure our graduates’ social security and broaden the scope of their specialization, our students undertake a ”Junior Specialist” course of training in Accounting and qualify as certified accountants.

For the period of training, every student acquires practical skills in his/her specialization by doing internship at the leading enterprises of various forms of ownership in Kharkov, there is also an opportunity of work-placement in learning centers abroad in order for the students to improve in their chosen specialization or obtain advanced foreign language training.

During the course of training  our students undertake the following kinds of practical training:

-         in the 1^st year – introductorial practice in economics;

-         in the 2^nd year – practice in accountancy;

-         in the 4^th year -  introductory industrial practice in economics;

-         in the 5^th year – industrial and pre-diploma practice.

As a consequence of Ukraine’s joining the Bologna process and a transition to multi-stage higher education, employee qualification standards required by the job market have risen. Nowadays, graduates with a Master’s Degree are more competitive, more in demand and can claim better-paid positions than those with Specialist’s and Bachelor’s Degrees.

Graduates of the Business and Administration Department - holders of Master’s Degrees

-         are knowledgeable about methods of company activities organization;

-         have profound knowledge of information technologies and newest developments in conducting business with the help of information technologies;

-         have substantial knowledge of their chosen professional field and a high proficiency in a foreign language (English);

-         receive an additional qualification – that of a teacher of economics.
