Astakhovа Yekaterina Viktorovna, Rector of Kharkov University of Humanities “People's Ukrainian Academy”, DLett (Historical Studies).

Yekaterina Viktorovna was born on March 18, 1959 in Kharkov.

In 1981 graduated from the Karazin Kharkov National University.

In 1986 Yekaterina Astakhova defended her PhD thesis on the problem “Social functions of physical culture and sport: a historical aspect” (Expert Examining Board, Kharkov University).

In 1994 Y. V. Astakhova defended her post-doctoral thesis on the problem “Formation of a multi-party system in the USSR during the post-perestroika period” (Senior Doctorate Expert Examining Board, Shevchenko Kiev National University).

Her teachers were professors V. I. Astakhova, L. D. Perevozov, L. S. Chernomaz.

Y. V. Astakhova has been working at the PUA since 1991. She was the scientific adviser of two successfully defended PhD theses and a post-doctoral thesis.

Yekaterina Viktorovna gives lectures on the history of Ukraine, theory and practice of education.

Professional interests:

- Quality management in the system of higher education;

- personnel policies and work with personnel under the conditions of a continual education;

- formation, development and improvement of cultural and educational environment of the educational institution;

- shaping the image of the institution and using social networks for its development and improvement;

- organizing the university cooperation with the business community;

- fundraising component in the activities of an institution of an extra-budgetary funding.

Areas of research:

- History of education;

- biography studies (within the history of education);

- modern higher education social functions;

- higher school personnel potential and its transformation;

- integration / disintegration in the system of higher education of the CIS countries.

Research projects and grants:

- Participation in a number of projects and programs of USAID ( 1997, 2000.); CEUME, UAMDBE (Ukrainian Association for Management Development and Business Education).

- Management and participation in the implementation of projects within the Tempus program ( 159327 - TEMPUS - 1 - 2009 - 1 - AT - TEMPUS - SMGR (2009-4929/001-001 “E-internationalization for collaborative learning”), the International foundation “Revival”, the International Foundation “Russian world” , the German publishing house “LAP Lambert Academic Publishing GmbH & CO.KG”.

- Participation in research projects of KUH “PUA”: “Student of the XXI century”, “Pedagogical Dynasties”, “Rectors of Kharkov higher schools”.

- Experiment on the formation and development of a continuing education complex.

Y. V. Astakhova advises students, masters, post-graduates on their scientific research. Each year students' research works carried out under the supervision of Y. V. Astakhova become winners at regional and city contests.

Scientific and educational work of Y.V. Astakhova has been honored with quite a few awards, among them the honorary title of “Excellence in Education of Ukraine” (1999), Medal of Honour of the Association of Ukrainian non-state educational institutions “For Development of Education” (2003), Medal of Honour of the mayor of Kharkov “For Diligence” (2005), the badge “For scientific achievements” (2008), the title of Honorary Doctor of Philosophy in Education (Wisconsin International University, 2008), the honorary title “Best Educationalist of 2009” in the nomination “Just build a temple”, the badge of honor “For social partnership” of the Presidium of the Central Committee of the Education Workers Trade Union (2011).
